Hey, it's Juliana Cunha.
I'm a Brazilian blogger who has been posting in Portuguese for ages. I recently created this second blog where I could also write in English.
My original blog is called "Já Matei Por Menos", which would be something like "I've Killed for Less". I decided to keep the same title, but don't bother trying to understand the meaning: it's just something I came up with when I was 14, and it doesn't make much sense in Portuguese either.
The blog doesn't have a single well-established topic because I'm interested in way too many things and refuse to focus. However, most of the posts fall into one of these three categories:
reviews/analyses of books, movies, and TV series;
chronicles and personal essays;
essays, reflections, and laments about the internet and being alive in 2023.

Apart from writing, I also do stuff for a living
Currently, I’m an instructor at FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas, Getulio Vargas Foundation, you name it) in Brazil, in addition to teaching online courses on literature, and occasionally translating books.
I graduated in Letters (English and Portuguese) and History from USP (University of São Paulo), earned a master's degree in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature, and am currently pursuing a doctorate in the same area, and in the same uni. My master's thesis focused on The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, and my doctoral research is on Fogo Morto by José Lins do Rego.
I began writing at the age of 14 in a fanzine my then-boyfriend and I created called Filosofia Privada (Private Philosophy). We printed our texts on A4 sheets and posted them in school bathrooms facing the toilet. Our motto was “a collective of writers who know their place.” While the texts were not of the best quality, the idea was amusing. We knew that no one would sit in an armchair and solemnly open our text to read, so we aimed to be read in situations where the person would have nothing better to do. Those were simpler times, no smartphones competing even for those minutes of intimacy.
The fanzine gained some success in my hometown, Salvador, and I became a youth columnist for the newspaper A Tarde, where I wrote chronicles and short articles throughout high school. At 20, I moved to São Paulo and began working at Folha de S.Paulo, where I stayed for eight years as a journalist.
I started my so-called career as a university professor in 2019 at FGV. At first, I was a visiting professor. Then, I taught the mandatory subject of academic writing and worked at FGV's School of International Relations writing center for three years. Currently, I teach storytelling in FGV's Graduate Program in Digital Communication Strategies.
As you can see, I clearly have an above-average need for stage, hence my inclination towards writing and teaching.
